Interview tips

Being interviewed for a job can be a stressful experience.  To help you along with the interview process, we’ve compiled a list of Dos and Don’ts which may help prepare you.

Do

  • Dress suitably – wear your best work outfit and make sure you are clean and well groomed
  • Highlight your skills and accomplishments
  • Listen carefully
  • Be yourself
  • Do background research on the company you are being interviewed by to show them you understand their company and its projects.
  • Be prepared by running through some mock interview questions with a friend
  • Be direct and answer questions honestly
  • Look the interviewer in the eye
  • Be positive and SMILE!
Don’t
  • Be late – get to the interview with at least 10 minutes to spare so you’re not flustered or sweaty
  • Chew gum
  • Bite nails
  • Assume the interviewer knows what you’re talking about
  • Don’t ask questions about annual leave or pay – this will become evident if they are interested in offering you a position
  • Go off track when answering a question
  • Be negative – employers don’t want to hear about past negative experiences in your life or workplaces
