Interview tips
Being interviewed for a job can be a stressful experience. To help you along with the interview process, we’ve compiled a list of Dos and Don’ts which may help prepare you.
Do
- Dress suitably – wear your best work outfit and make sure you are clean and well groomed
- Highlight your skills and accomplishments
- Listen carefully
- Be yourself
- Do background research on the company you are being interviewed by to show them you understand their company and its projects.
- Be prepared by running through some mock interview questions with a friend
- Be direct and answer questions honestly
- Look the interviewer in the eye
- Be positive and SMILE!
Don’t - Be late – get to the interview with at least 10 minutes to spare so you’re not flustered or sweaty
- Chew gum
- Bite nails
- Assume the interviewer knows what you’re talking about
- Don’t ask questions about annual leave or pay – this will become evident if they are interested in offering you a position
- Go off track when answering a question
- Be negative – employers don’t want to hear about past negative experiences in your life or workplaces
